Fleas have become a common prolific problem within homes with dogs and cats. They need the host i.e. your pet to live off. There is now a real resistance to a lot of the treatments that you can buy off the shelf to treat and protect your pet.

Only the more expensive ones usually available through your vet still work. We can advise you on the better treatments.

Fleas feed on the hosts blood, laying up to 1000 eggs in her lifespan. Often there can be thousands of fleas close or around the host in their bedding in carpets, between floorboards or in your settee or your own bed. The problem is usually worse in homes with cats.

Flea eggs can stay dormant for up to 12 months until they are woken up by new vibrations and a source emitting CO2

The rat flea was responsible for spreading the Plague but nowadays it may spread tapeworm in dogs. Bites on humans can sometimes cause allergic reactions.

Signs are often a number of bites on lower limbs, or maybe seen around your house or on your animals.

Flea Treatment Services from Pest Detective

We offer a fast response and survey of your house/business premises to confirm the infestation and work out how far its spread.  A full survey is necessary of all surrounding rooms. Monitoring may be necessary before treatment stage to confirm Fleas are the cause of the bites. Other things including cable mite can cause similar signs and symptoms. We cannot treat with chemicals without confirming a problem first.

Once investigated, we will implement an action plan working with yourselves to get your animals treated with specific insecticides available from your vet.

The house will need a thorough hoovering and all items tidied and removed from the floors. Pet bedding will need to be washed at a high temperature or destroyed.

We will then spray your home or workplace with the right residual insecticides that are safe for your children, pets and yourselves.

After 4 hours of the insecticide drying your home is safe to return to.

We have a specific treatment regime that needs to be followed to make it effective and get rid of your problems. As we have sprayed a residual treatment, we need you not to hoover for a full two weeks to allow the chemicals to kill off your problem, If this is done sooner the product will be less effective.

We offer the very best service at a competitive price.

Flea Treatment FAQ

Can I treat Fleas myself?

You can try but by using domestic products like smoke bombs will only kill the live ones and then the eggs hatch and you have a whole new life cycle of Fleas in a few days. Domestic products are designed to be less effective and not as strong for amateur use. Our own products are very effective but need the right protective equipment so we can apply them.

What do I need to do before treatment?
  • Vacuum the whole house, including furniture such as settees and lounge chairs

  • Place all food items inside cupboards/fridge

  • All items littering the floor should be picked up.

  • Customers must not be present in a room while it is treated until it dries.

  • Vacuum cleaner and brushes must be accessible for treatment

  • Property should be warm, not overheated.

  • Cats and dogs MUST be treated with a suitable, veterinary approved product such as Frontline Plus or preferable, Advantage or similar prescribed VET treatment. The cheap shop ones do not work now! This treatment must be continued, or fleas will return.

  • Windows should be closed

Is your treatment dangerous to children or my pets?

No it is not. After we have sprayed your house, it needs to dry to form a very fine insecticidal powder for about 4 hours, you can go back inside. We recommend wearing of slippers or footwear for the following 14 days.

Can I clean up after you have treated our home?

NO this cannot be done for 14 days or the treatment will not work! The spray we use has a residual action that continues to work by coating your floors and carpets with a very fine powder and if this is removed then it stops working.
